Our Programs

Hosea Feed The Hungry is open all year long providing quality human services every week. All of our services are provided completely free of charge to over 50,000 families and individuals a year. Below you will find a list of our human services programs, a description of each program and a statement about how you can make your contribution to the efforts of that program.

Services to Other Organizations

We provide free services to over 40 non-profit and faith based organizations quarterly throughout the year. These organizations range from local food pantries to transitional housing facilities, from churches to assistance programs for widows and orphans, from human services organizations that cater to specific neighborhoods to job readiness programs, and so much more. We provide these organizations with the food and supplies that they need help the communities that they serve. Organizations can come to us for food to feed hundreds of people, cutlery, carry-out trays, cups, bed sheets, clothing, cleaning supplies, school supplies, toys, cooking ware, beverages, boxes, tape and so much more. At Hosea Feed The Hungry we do direct services, but we also take pride in assisting other organizations that provide direct services.

Homeless Prevention

We provide financial assistance to hard working families and individuals that find themselves in an economic crisis that could result in homelessness. Many of the families that we serve through this program are self-reliant, but need some temporary support, and once that support is given the family can return to a stable self-sustained living condition. We help them with rent, mortgage and utility assistance.

We also provide emergency financial assistance for medical prescrptions, funeral expenses, and transportation costs for individuals to get to work and take their children to school. These are all things that could burden a family by causing them to redirect funds away from shelter, utilities and food. Our goal is to help those that have stable housing to keep their homes, and decrease the amount of people that become homeless.

The Day Center

We provide groceries, baby products, clothing, toiletries and case management for up to 75 families and individuals every week throughout the year. We see between 15 and 25 families and individuals each day for three days a week. Our case managers assess each family's need understanding the dynamics that make each case unique, and then determine which resources would best meet their need. We wrap a variety of human services around each client, and if they are in need of something that we don't provide we do the research to find out who can and then make the connection, after which we follow up with each client to ensure that they got what they needed.

Community Outreach

We take two approaches to community outreach. The first is that we produce events for the general public where on a single day up to 350 households can come to our Families Care and Crisis Center and receive food, clothing, beverages, household items, furniture and so much more. We produce events like this once a month. The second approach that we take is to package food and beverages for individual use, and take a team of volunteers throughout the city to distribute those items to communities that do not have human services organizations, or to communities that are under served, or to locations where individuals are homeless and do not have access to transportation.

Services to Seniors

We provide outreach services and home deliveries to over 10,000 seniors anually. These services include pre-cooked meals with beverages, and are provided by volunteers that transport these items to the sick, the shut-in, and elderly individuals that have no family and may not get any visitors. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season seniors call us and tell us what they need, and we place the products in the hands of our volunteers to show them that someone is here that cares about them.

Back to School

Every year, on a single day, we provide over 2,200 children and teens with book bags that have already been filled with school supplies. This event takes place in a fun and exciting festival atmosphere with live music performances, free cooked food, clothing distribution and so much more. It's fun for the entire family, and even teachers that need supplies can come and pick up free items to help them in the classroom.

Our Signature Holiday Events

We produce four signature holiday events every year. These events take place on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Martin L. King Jr's Birthday, and Easter Day. In combining the totals for these four events we provide services for over 20,000 people. These services are completely free of charge and include cooked meals, barbers and hair stylists, medical screenings and care, clothing, legal aid, live music performances, prayer and counseling, hot showers and so much more. At these events we also duplicate these same services for hundreds of children that also are provided with their own space, entertainment and toys for the holiday season. At a single event, like on Thanksgiving Day, we can serve between 5,000 and 8,000 people with the help of over 900 volunteers. These events are evidence that the few can impact the many, that hundreds can impact thousands.

International Outreach

Hosea Feed The Hungry has started serving the international community for nearly a decade. During this time we have sponsored a High School in the Philippines and are responsible for the Graduation of over 400 students. We have provided free direct medical services to over 3,000 people in Haiti. Of the more than 3,000 individuals we served 70% of them were children. We have gone to Uganda and Korea to forge partnerships with other Human Services agencies that have been shown to have a positive impact in their communities.
