Details Ranking Name Mission Board Case Managers Audit History 2020 2021 County
1: Eligible and Selected for Award. East Lake Foundation, Inc

The mission of the East Lake Foundation (ELF) is to provide tools for families of The Villages of East Lake (VOEL) and students of Charles R. Drew Charter School to build a better life for themselves and future generations through cradle-to-college education, mixed-income housing and community wellness.

ELF was established in 1995 in Atlanta/DeKalb County to serve as the local, committed nonprofit leading revitalization of the East Lake community, whose core was comprised of violent, dilapidated public housing. Residents and other stakeholders adopted a plan that led to construction of affordable, mixed-income apartments at VOEL. Education quickly became a focus as ELF replaced the failing school with Drew Charter School focusing on a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) curriculum and Project-Based Learning approach. ELF developed other facilities, enlisted early education and wellness partners, and launched programs to address community needs.

ELF has worked to create a mixed-income community while focusing on economically disadvantaged families living at VOEL and in the broader East Lake and Kirkwood neighborhoods. ELF’s Resident and Community Support Program (RCSP) incorporates a commitment to increasing economic mobility and building thriving communities through job readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy programming.

In spring 2020, ELF launched the East Lake COVID-19 Relief Fund to provide a variety of supports for residents of VOEL facing economic hardship due to COVID-19. Supports have included rent and utility assistance, food distributions, personal protective equipment, mental health counseling, computer distributions and fee assistance for early childhood education and wellness programs. The Fund is continuing to provide assistance in 2021.
